Bridge Materials for Marshfork
- Drinking in Freelancers' Tavern and feel it is time to augment gold.
- Stairway to Arnari guarded by Myev (female half-orc) and Nohea (Fire sagani)
- Waved past becuase have the supercool badges
- Talk to Arnari
- Escort bridge repair supplies to Marshfork - 150gp each
- Investigate and find the vandals at the Sky Guard outputs - 150gp
- Guard the Pilot's Guild stables for ten days - 100gp + 50gp if chase someone off and get them to stop
- Escort drugs back from Hindmarsh - 150gp each
- This seemed strange. Why not combine them, since Marshfork isn't that far away from Hindmarsh.
- Arnari agrees - go talk to Major of Cliffshadow the next morning
- You are on your own to get from Marshfork to Hindmarsh
- Once in Hindmarsh you are escorting herbs for House Ha'haheo
- Dryali thinks weird to cross skylith in the open, and doesn't want to be caught without consumables, makes sure to have wine and rations
- Next morning: the Mayor's office
- Government building in center of town
- Statue of pegasus leaping into the air
- Kaikoa has some contraption he uses to get around
- Mayor - Kaiea - Fire sagani, much younger than expected
- Appears very experienced though
- Kaikoa asks why does this get the Mayor's attention, he explains the engineer you are picking up is a friend of his
- Walk down to cart - Adam Crossman
- 2 Mules. Tahu seems fond of them
- Kaikoa straps his contraption to the back of cart
- Trip to Three Rivers is without incident.
- Passed a cairn with HERE BE DEAD GRBLINS sign. Tahu explains he did this when he rode with Adam and Lizzie out here and they attacked.
- Arrive Three Rivers
- Meet up with Lizzie Brannan at The Mule's Rest
- While in tap room, Kaikoa strikes up a game of darts with someone from Marshfork. They tell Kaikoa they'd heard wolves. Kaikoa throws his darts wide. He's not very good at darts.
- Dryali hangs out in a corner by himself, playing with jeweler's tools and a silver piece.
- Leave Three Rivers and head west towards Marshfork
- Rolling farmland
- Kaikoa asks Lizzie, since she is an artificer, what can be done with his contraption. She has an artificed badger companion, who goes inspects it. Repairs it
- Can it be a hang glider - no that's beyond my art here. Bug me later
- Pick a campsite. Partial walls
- Dryali on mid watch, before dawn, then he still gets a long rest
- Gets hit with arrow. Maybe should watch more and play with tools less.
- Wakes up others, casts arcane weapon on rapier. Thunder.
- Lizzie Brannan shoots two with heavy crossbow.
- Tahu falls on his face.
- Two run away.
- Dryali catapults a rock onto one and smashes its head.
- Kaikoa nails the last one with a handaxe.
- Loot weapons - scimitars & short bows on all of them.
- Dryali takes a short bow just to have a ranged weapon for the duration
- Get to Marshfork with Lizzie Brannan
- Right before getting to town, Dryali seems some grblins mounted on wolves upriver. After relaying it to others, Tahu then admits he thought he saw that too the day before, but hadn't said anything because felt it unbelievable
- Go see the Mayor, Casimir Lightforger (male human) about offloading supplies, and disturbing grblin attack
- "O no moar grblins"
- "Have you seen them riding wolves?"
- "They've been trying to raid the travelers in & out of Marshfork. We've been having trouble getting the harvest in"
- Stay at The Cantankerous Goose inn
- 150gp each. Remember 10% to Freelancers Guild!
Herbs from Hindmarsh
- After talking to Casimir Lightforger, the Mayor, sell the grblin weapons for 22g [each?]
- Staying at The Cantankerous Goose Inn
- Retcon: the Goose is now a Folk God with portfolio of Sabotage and is now regarded by Skyway peoples the way earth people regard Murphy
- Patrons in taproom are humans, sagani, and some halflings.
- Ask around for anyone heading to Hindmarsh. Kaikoa basically doesn't want to walk
- Innkeeper points out Matteo Goosegiver (male human, mid-30s in age)
- Kaikoa strikes up conversation: Hear you are travelling to Hindmarsh
- M: yah
- K: how large a group
- M: just one wagon
- K: the roads are dangerous lately, we were thinking there would be safety in numbers
- M: sure. you can travel with us
- K: what are you transporting?
- M: herb gathering / alchemical supplies
- Matteo has a companion, Violet (female human, commoner-ish. Brown hair, tan skin). Mule names are Rainy and Cloudy.
- Travel the next morning. No sign of grblins, but on 3rd day a hungry hungry hippogryph attacks. It is ribsy, possibly becuase it is missing some of the remiges on its right wing, and clearly thinks one of the mules will solve this problem. Kaikoa was in the back of the wagon when it appeared.
- Tahu readies swords.
- Kaikoa grabs the spare mule harness from back of wagon and readies to capture
- Dryali grants Kaikoa guidance.
- The hippogryph ignores the humanoids and tries to bite Rainy. Tahu, understanding Kaikoa's intent, thumps it with the sword hilts instead of blades. Kaikoa manages to get the mule harness on it and yank it. The hippogryph fails to bite Rainy.
- Tahu pulled out some rations and scattered them around, trying to distract the hippogryph while Kaikoa continues to pull it away from the mules.
- Dryali, seeing this, casts mage hand to bring the rations in the hungry hippogryph's face. The hippogryph is far more interested in eating than any other activity.
- The mules are restive and Matteo works on calming them.
- Tahu gets out some rope and helps Kaikoa while he works on restraining the hippogryph. Dryali would be no help with this and asks what to do. "Help Matteo move the cart so the mules aren't right here" so he does that.
- Seeing its meal move away, the hippogryph tries to get out of the restraints. Tahu tries to calm it but is unsuccessful.
- Dryali decides this is worth another day's rations and uses mage hand again to feed the still hungry hippogryph. Kaikoa and Tahu manage to calm it.
- Matteo calls back: you catch it?
- K: for now. You got something to fit it?
- M: only got the one harness here
- Kaikoa leads the hippogryph to the back to the cart, and kind of ties it so it can't use one of the wings.
- M: will stop early. <hesitates> will want pay, for that harness!
- Kaikoa goes hunting! 2 rabbits. Feeds 1 to hippogryph, the other one to party
- Continue towards Hindmarsh the next day. No rabbits the next night, but the night after, 4 rabbits. The hippogryph is fairly docile becuase it really was hungry.
- Get to Hindmarsh in the early afternoon. It tapers off rear end of the skylith!
- Docks with airships that have seen good use. Obviously smuggler ships
- In the distance beyond the end of the skylith are spectacularly huge tornadoes and vortices. From the south they are almost water spouts, from the water falling off the edge of the marsh
- Part ways with Matteo, who gouges and wants 5gp for the harness. Sure fine we got a hippogryph.
- The hippogryph is female and Kaikoa dubs her Mordant.
- Kaikoa takes off to find stabling.
- Tahu and Dryali follow Arnari's instructions to House Ha'aheo's warehouse.
- Warehouse manager is Vaughn Quickrein (male Rain sagani). Introduces us to Pike, (male Rock sagani with orange agate eyes), who talks in monosyllabic grunts. We are to meet them 1 hour after dawn and they will supply rations etc.
- Kaikoa walks up as we tell them there is 1 more.
- Found stabling & lodging at the Anchor & Plough.
- We didn't tell them about the hippogryph. Go buy saddle and rations for her.
- Now what. Dryali wants to check out Hindmarsh. Kaikoa has been here before.
- About Hindmarsh: the warehouses are near the SE near the actual marsh. A short road from there to the docks.
- At Anchor & Plough taproom, exchange gossip with the bartender. He tells Kaikoa about the airships in & out, some of which Kaikoa knows. We tell him about the grblins, which he had not heard about.
- Kaikoa, show us around!
- There's drinking, and bare-knuckle boxing. Maybe watch matches with live weapons (although that's more clandestine)
- All kinds of … herbs
- There's great sport / tourist pastime to go to a certain spot and throw things off the edge. Vendors will sell you things that are bright colors and/or can glow (via alchemy) and you can watch to see if the tornado took them up (at night). We do this
- 1gp at Anchor & Plough (room + stable). Go to warehouse the next morning. Kaikoa's contraption occasionally says "oop cow" in Dryali's voice. Dryali reacts to this impassively.
- Meet up with Pike.
- P: "hippogryph?!"
- K: "watchbird!"
- P: "unh!"
- Trip back to Marshfork mostly uneventful. More grblins on wolves spotted towards the north. Do not approach road.
- Kaikoa not figuring out the "oop cow"
- Tell Casimir Lightforger spotted more grblins
- Stay at The Cantankerous Goose again
- Buy 2gp more worth of rations
- Head to Three Rivers.
- Two grblins on wolves come right up to the road!
- They see the hippogryph, who is not quite as ribsy as originally, and Nope right on out of there.
- Go to the Mayor of Three Rivers, Ethan (human male), and warn him we were almost attacked by grblins on wolves!
- Continue to Cliffgate
- Rolling farmland
- Oop cow
- In Cliffshadow, go to Ha'aheo warehouse near the docks. Hanohano pays everyone 150gp, including Pike. Then he sees the hippogryph.
- H: had some adventures on the road!
- K: guard hippogryph!
- H: effective?
- K: try your hand!
- H: <backs up a step> No Thanks!
- Return to Freelancers' Hall
- They will stable the hippogryph for free!
- Arnari: we can recommend trainers. Actually, talk to Sovelai [female wild elf] in the hippogryph stable section, who would know how to recommend correct person
- D: we saw more grblins. Mounted on wolves, this time
- A: I can confirm this emblem has not been seen before. You should talk to the mayor
- 30gp each vended to Freelancers Guild so maybe hippogryph stabling not as free as it sounds.
- Go to the Mayor and tell him of the grblin attacks.
- T: they seemed to be from the north.
- T: how does that work? Do all the cities on the skylith band together?
- M: for such things, I am nominally in charge. Soon ,we will set up an expedition to root them all out.
- T: are they always… evil?
- M: grblin hunting is only done when they band together and attach travelers. ...you are not the only people reporting this.
