Lorcan was sad. Glesni, Mia, Ondar, and Osric had returned from Sceap, with the ankheg queen's head. They had slaughtered all those magnificent creatures, who after all were still Nature's children.
A new Freelancer had just joined, a stocky human named Sabah. They seemed older, with salt-and-pepper hair, and had been living in the wild for a while. Their skin was darker than Lorcan's and they were wearing stylized armour that looked ornamental.
Anyhow, Apastron was upon them. Since Lorcan did not have much to get rid of, he went with Ondar to see what contests Cliffshadow was holding. The two of them found multiple contests of how long people could stand in the bonfire smoke, and eventually participated in one. Ondar won; but Lorcan came in a close second. Ondar went on to try more new drinks, but Lorcan wandered about, looking at more of Cliffshadow's contests.
In the big park in Parkside, there were sumo matches, the notion being one was clearing one's opponent out of the circle to restore the Void. Sabah participated in those, winning twice before losing the third match.
Kaikoa decided there would be fun and profit in trying to sneak into the breath holding contests. Wind sagani were banned from them, so he disguised himself as a human: he took the wheelchair, which masked his height, and used glasses and a mask to hide his skin colour. To avoid too much scrutiny, he was careful not to "win" and only came in second place, which had a prize of 55gp. Then he noticed the first place winner was also a Wind sagani in disguise.
Timmy skulked around many of the bonfires, checking out what people were trying to get rid of. Most people were getting rid of useless junk, but he did find a fighting fan which wasn't fully attached. Even so, it was a serviceable weapon, and would do well with some care.
