It's the Tumultuous Holiday! The eighth of the year in which the most storms in the mid- and outer-parts of Skyway was nigh, and all were on holiday to celebrate the playfulness of the gods Hau and Whatitiri.
Taiko drum groups were set up in the Pegasus Square, in front of the government buildings, and would trade off performances from dawn till dusk. Less formal players had their own taiko in the park in the north of the city.
Both Freelancers and the Academy of Magic had members and guards on the roofs with lightning sheets, setting them off every 2 hours. The eerie sound of the lighting sheets would echo for many surrounding blocks, and residents in earshot would take to the roofs to bang on whatever was appropriate - drums, gongs, pots and pans. As a result Cliffshadow was awash with noise and revelry as the cacophony would move across the city in waves.
Shortly before noon, the followers of the Church of Storms emerged, led by Typhoon Waiola Vaina, to parade up Mimosa Boulevard to Pegasus Square. She wore her full regalia, and carried the javelin Bright Thunder, which looked made of glass with blue and silver streaks of lighting undulating slowly inside of it.
As the Typhoon arrived in the square, packed with people and festival vendors, the taiko dropped to a murmur, and storm sorcerers whipped up the wind. Everyone watched with bated breath as the wind and the taiko increased, until she raised her arms and sent a bolt of lighting straight up into the sky.
Then the cacophony echoed across Cliffshadow again and the revelry continued.
Kaikoa and Dryali were enjoying the show from a corner of the square. They'd never seen how Cliffshadow celebrated the Tumultuous Holiday and were comparing notes. Dryali explained in Stormview, his city on Nadezhda, everyone emerged from the underground caverns, and the Church of Storms set up a protected zone outside. Other Freelancers were also circulating in the crowd; even Arnari, who had just finished taking her own turn on the taiko.
Dryali and Kaikoa also were keeping an eye out for either Jamie or any of the Daystar worshippers, but there was no sign of the former, and apparently the latter did not share the rest of the city's desire to celebrate the gods of the storm.
