Commerce
Type
Skylith
Commerce is a medium-sized skylith orbiting in the middle reaches, 12 hours offset from the much larger Duquesne. It is a banking hub for all of the peoples of Skyway, though there are two cities divided, which keep the generally unfriendly peoples away from each other.
- Orbit:
- Circular, flat, 24-hour revolution.
- Rotation:
- synchronous, but the skylith undergoes significant nutation, which informs the architecture as well as minor things like design of shelves and placement of furniture.
- Gravity:
- earth-normal
- Terrain:
- Generally round, but a large crater which is a significant percentage of the skylith takes up the northern 40% of the outward-facing surface. The southern edge of the crater rim is the highest point on the skylith and oriented to align with the orbital direction. The crater wall has significant erosion caused by collision with a fresh-water thalassa many centuries prior. Rivers and canyons cut through the wall and drain into a lake at the northern end of the crater; the most spectacular one cuts a deep gorge between the ancient cities of Ripa Daneo and Gata Nahaki. South of the Rim and the cities thereon are mountains to the west, surrounded by hilly grasslands dotted with western oak, suitable for grazing.
- Governance:
- City council for each of the cities.
Associations present:
- Carnivale has a rare, permament performance installation between Ripa Daneo and Gata Nahaki.
- College of Wizardry has a campus on the crater side of the Rim in Ripa Daneo.
- Council of Antiquaries have campuses in each of Ripa Daneo and Gata Nahaki.
- Freelancers have a Tavern in Ripa Daneo.
- The Great Workshop of Eternal Refinements has a workshop in Vathia Estia.
- Most Serene Boundary has a monastery in the southern part of the skylith, Tranquil Crossing.
- The Skyguard has a large presence in the mountains to the southwest of Gata Nahaki.
- The Windscouts have a small fortress in the Rim below the Gata Nahaki docks.
- There is a bardic conservatory on the crater's central mount.
