Planting
The Planting Holiday on Commerce, as far as Glesni and Kaikoa could tell, was much like they'd seen on other skyliths. Those who lived in the crater to the north rose early for breakfast; those in towns and cities planned parades to Ua and street festivals, at which people tried to reverse pickpocket. Parties of various levels of decadence abounded, as it was traditional for people to try new things.
The parties of the wealthy in Ripa Daneo and Gata Nahaki waited a day or two, as they also were out and about with the other revelers. Street vendors were set up along the parade route, which sold tiny rainsticks people would use for attempts to reverse pickpocket and slip them into others' pockets, unnoticed.
The back tavern at Freelancers Villa was closed; the public tavern was set up with all the private rooms open, serving fancy brunch to all comers. Ana, a Maker gnome wizard in Freelancers, eschewed participating; eating brunch at Freelancers wasn't exactly "trying new things". She dressed in her fancy clothes and sought out brunch at a high-class sex club. Her arrival there turned heads, and she was… very popular. She had a great time; everyone loved Ana.
Kaikoa, a Wind sagani cavalier in Freelancers, was all for having brunch in the public Freelancers' Tavern, but had been getting increasingly creepy letters from on Arnald, another Wind sagani. Arnald had been taken by the Freelancers promotional poster of him posing with Dryali and Hikawera, and his latest letter informed Kaikoa he'd had the latter's signature tattoo'd on his chest. Kaikoa investigated to learn that Nix, a human sorceress in Freelancers, had disguised herself as Kaikoa and signed Arnald's chest in order to send the admirer away from the public tavern, where he'd been causing a scene demanding to meet Kaikoa.
So, Kaikoa also eschewed fancy brunch in the public tavern, and sought out fancy brunch elsewhere. He ended up on a street with upscale shops and nice restaurants, and a coffee shoppe named Tours le Jus. The Wind sagani did his best to blend in with the crowd, mill through the fancy brunches, and swipe leftover bottles of champagne and beignets before the tables were cleared. He was so successful at it that his cravat appeared frosty from powdered sugar, matching his silvery hair.
Glesni, a Cloud elf archer in Freelancers, enjoyed the brunch in Freelancers Tavern, but did not really mingle well with all the patrons. She slipped out after a while to see what the Parade of Rainsticks looked like in Ripa Daneo. The crowd was enthusiastic, not jaded, which she found comforting. Caught up in the enthusiasm, she decided to buy a half-dozen tiny rainsticks and try her hand at "planting" them in other peoples' pockets. She did not always succeed at her attempts, but people realized she was an awkward noble and humoured her instead of calling her on it.
Fine Branch, nekomata Cleric of The Cat in Freelancers, spent some time tending bar in the public Freelancers' Tavern, hoping for an opportunity to push a drink off the edge of the bar. When the opportunity did not materialize, they took off towards Mercenary Row, and obtained a sack full of sunflower seeds. They cast pass without trace on themself, and instead of tiny rainsticks, started planting the sunflower seeds in the pockets of the various mercenaries on leave, wandering about for the festivities.
By mid afternoon, Fine Branch found a young member of the Steel Dragons wandering around by himself. They cast modify memory on this person, handing him the sack of seeds. The memory Fine Branch planted was: he decided to prank others with the seeds, buying the sack from Fine Branch, a nekomata vendor, for 1 eagle. Fine Branch then faded back into the crowd, leaving the hapless mercenary to start planting seeds in others. He was not stealthy at all.
